The lights on the side of the car are different colors to denote the different classes. The number of lights illuminated, 1, 2, or 3, denote postion in class.
Somewhere on the IMSA/ALMS website is the official explanation. The lights on the upper right hand side of the windshield (or roof) are probably identification light to make a particular car more visible to its crew

Illumination is mandatory as per article 7.5 in the sporting regulations.

Le Mans LMP1/LMP2 & GT1 & GT2 CARS
Britcar 24hr
Spa-Francorchamps 24hr
and other night running endurance races.

And the colour of the numbers indicates the class as well:
Blue for PC and GTD, Red for P and GTLM.
